Center for the Book commissions Bodies of Text for May 2011

Picture
The Blue Book by Rebecca Kelly

The Center for the Book and Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts have commissioned local dance choreographers to make new dance works inspired by visual arts books from the Center for the Book's members. Movement Brigade has been chosen as a collaborator and is working with Rebecca Kelly, the creator of The Blue Book.

For this upcoming collaboration, Heather Cole, Erin Shanti Desmond and Alie Vidich will create a dance theater work that is inspired by the book's emotional feelings about the many layered meanings of the word blue.

soft, blue mountains meeting yellow skies
trapped in your body without any escapes
the weight and wait of the world rounding your shoulders
                                                                                                                              the sweetest, shimmering sky

Visual arts, poetry, physical theater and visceral dancing will connect together for this new work inspired by The Blue Book.

Rebecca Kelly creator of The Blue Book is currently curating Raw Beauty: An Exhibition of Sculpture. “Raw Beauty,” says Kelly, is about creating objects “that communicate each artist’s thoughts and feelings about the primitive strengths and imperfections of the female spirit.” See the exhibit now until Sat, February 26th at the Arts Council of Princeton’s Paul Robeson Center for the Arts, 102 Witherspoon Street 609-924-8777 or www.artscouncilofprinceton.org.
