For those who I love: a solo becoming a...

Picture
Alie rehearsing the solo at the Parlor in South Philly.

I am showing this solo on Saturday 5/26 at Philly PARD's Mixed Grille. It's a deep exploration on what love relationships mean to me. In the fall, I am expanding this work into a group piece where I look at how maternal relationships affect women as economic producers throughout their entire lives. heady - i know :)

I really hope you can come to the show this weekend!

I am honored to share some more good news with you  -

I was invited by Joanna Lesnierowska of Stary Browar Nowy Taniec, a dance organization in Poznań, Poland to visit Poznań during the Malta Festival and participate in a choreographic coaching project with Jurij Konjar. The Malta Festival is an internationally recognized arts festival with dance, film, visual art, music, theater. This year’s Malta Festival is called Asian Investments and the festival's programming focuses on the cross-pollination between European and Asian cultures. So,  of course I am excited to go!!! Coaching from an amazing solo performer like Konjar and the opportunity to infiltrate my mind with new ideas and imagery during the Festival. WOW!

Mucho mucho gracias to Dance USA Philadelphia because without them - I wouldn't even know about this opportunity and I would not be going to Poland. They are starting an amazing PHL/Poland Dance Artists Exchange with Stary Browar Nowy Taniec - go read about it!

URBAN HERD
dances to a location near you...

Picture
Urban  Herd is a dance research project created and directed by Erin Shanti Desmond.  Performances  are staged at  unexpected  times in  utilitarian and forgotten public spaces. These performances  are documented  through  video and  photography,  which  will  be compiled to create  a dance  film,  and photo  exhibition.

Urban Herd explores performance in the urban habitat by means of  highly stylized  movement  sequences, interactive choreographies, and flamboyant costuming.

Urban Herd is available to perform at a site of your choosing. The dance film can be screened at your gallery, theater, school or backyard.

Stay tuned for more information regarding this project as it develops throughout the Spring and Summer!! Join our mailing list for updates, click here.

dances for those who I love, for those who I have loved
& for those who I want to love

To be performed on Fri, Nov 18that 7:30pm at the CHI MAC Center at 1316 South 9th Street in South Philly (right near Pat & Geno's Steaks)
Tickets: $10-12 at the door

What is it??
Dances in commemoration of amazing people in my life who I love, loved and want to love. Three characters appear at different points.  Emotional connotations blur through winding bodies as the performers unravel sentiments that are not easily explained.  This is a very personal work about the exuberant and also harrowing journeys of love.

Who is dancing??
It will be performed by Eleanor Goudie-Averill, Erin Shanti Desmond and Alie Vidich.

                                                                                  HOPE YOU CAN COME!!

This concert is kindly co-produced by Philly's Magic Gardens.

The following artists will present work:

Chasing Arethusa - Chamber Punk, soon to sail across the Sea. Goddess vocals with strings and distorted guitar. The name comes from the water nymph of Greek mythology who was chased by an aroused river god and transformed into a stream which flowed underground. Former members of Lesser Known Neutrinos and Beware!

Gepetta -Puppet-theater and artistic performance that is both imaginative and enlightening, whimsical yet political. Inspired by classic fables and myths, occult symbolism, street art, and surrealism, Gepetta is infused with a pension for social and environmental activism and trans-feminist sensibilities. In addition to the Tranny Roadshow, Geppetta's work has been featured in productions including The Femme Show, Fresh Meat, and Puppet Uprising.

As they Rode Along The Edge - Film adaptation of the humorous feminist fantasy fairytale written in the 1930s by Leonora Carrington, the legendary  novelist, painter, mother, lover, and free thinker has been inspiring people around the globe since before World War Two. Amongst the hordes inspired by her rich body of work and collaborating for the first time after more than a decade of friendship are Philadelphia artistic peers Mandy Katz and Justin Duerr. For this project they began meeting in September ‘09 for weekly drawing sessions and created over 80 ink and watercolor paintings to illustrate the beautiful narration by poet Ish Klein. The paintings were filmed flip book style in the midst of a candlelit altar created for the paintings to nest within. With sound effects and musical score collaged into the mix, a snowglobe world was created with handmade immediacy.

Square Pi - " a mash up of the mind" hailing from Lady Baltimore...
